In just over a week, the UK produces enough rubbish to fill Wembley stadium. Over half of that waste can be recycled (Source: DETR). That is why we are committed to doing our bit and supporting our employees to think green with a number of initiatives.
Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled, and that’s why in April of this year we launched our official recycling scheme. Previously it had only been possible to recycle paper but with recycling points all around the building, it is easy for everyone at Serif to now recycle anything from paper to metal cans!
Paper makes up about 25% of what is thrown away and although we have been recycling paper for a while we have also taken steps to reduce our paper consumption. For example we have switched to paperless meetings, re-use paper where possible and even sent our suppliers e-cards last Christmas – not only saving paper but we also donated the money we would have spent to ‘When you Wish upon a Star’.
We have a variety of schemes to reduce the carbon footprint of our employees and as a company. We have consolidated our servers so they require less power and cooling systems – making us more energy efficient. We have also made it easier for our employees to reduce their carbon emissions with our bike scheme initiative and free bus service.
