This product is much easier to use than many of its competitors. It is particularly suited to precise editing and the addition of extra music, captions etc. I have used it to make videos and found that it can ve used to add subtitles without too much effort.

Very user friendly and affordable, same tradition as in the previous MovieX3. I have tested some other home movie softwares but prefer Serif MovieX the best. So many effects and transitions to choose and very often couldn't decide which one is the coolest. I wish there were one QuickMovie button for producing slideshow, which automatically matches music and images with random transitions included.
Highly recommended for novice movie maker.

Excellent software - I like the way it has built up over the different versions to give very powerful features with relative easy controls. I like the cleaner interface in this current version.

My review is for the MoviePlus X
I have been editing videos since 2001 and have always used Pinnacle Studio software. I had to buy a new HD camcorder as my old one had broken down. Having spent over £600 for it, I then had to edit it, as my Studio software was not up to the job, I chose Serif as it was reasonably cheap compared with its competitors.
I did not find it quite as intuitive as I would have liked - trying to work out why I couldn't apply a non scrolling title to my work took for ever, I eventually managed to work it out, but not before getting just a touch frustrated! The guidelines seemed to be a law unto themselves, multiplying like rabbits for no apparent reason!
Once I had overcome these hurdles I found the software to be very good indeed. Why do they bundle the, 'Director's Guide', in with the package rather than the instruction manual? I feel sure that the manual would be much more useful for understanding the way the program worked and would save hours of frustration, I have to add that there is an on screen version of the manual from within the program, but not good for reading in bed!!
How would I compare it with Pinnacle? Better in some respects, multiple video tracks and purpose made transitions for titles etc. On the other hand, having to manually slide the scenes out of the way in order to place another scene in-between and then close the scenes up is a little cumbersome.
On the whole I am very pleased with the product, just takes a little while to get to grips with, but I feel sure it will be worth it in the end.

I am still learning the program. Am excited about having a good program to share more and learn more of the special effects and how to editing . I have not had a lot of time to dedicate to the program yet and am having a hard time finding the time to dedicate to the program.

Serif have done it again - another lovely program that produces professional results with no madly steep learning curve. I teach vocational ITQ to adult learners and in less than half an hour they are feeling like movie directors, and after just a few short session they are producing some exciting work they can be proud of.

A very good program but takes a while to get use to it and you end up with a very good finish film the tiltles are impressive. The only down side is , you cannot download from the camera you have to download onto your computer then on to the program that takes forever but once you have achieved that it is plain sailing.

very intuitive piece of software, Ideal for a beginner to video editing, yet equally as powerful and feature packed for those who regularly use video editing suites.
Highly recommended.
Ease of use 10/10
adaptability 10/10
features 10/10
An absolute pleasure to work with. (In fact so much so that i have moved away from Another leading video editing suit.)

I worked as a professional video editor for many years in network TV. Since I discovered MoviePlus, it has proved to be a consistently great choice for editing HD video at home. I have used it for home movies, documentaries, professional demonstration videos and advertisements for web broadcasting.
I cannot recommend this product too highly. Use it and it let it speak for itself. The learning curve is very manageable. For beginners, the optional Directors Guide will teach you whatever you really need to know to shoot prosumer level footage and audio tracks.
Great value for the money - great value for twice the price in fact.

I was using a very good competitor's product but I needed to upgrade. I've used other Serif products and have found both the support and the tutorials to be excellent so I thought I'd give MoviePlus X5 a try. Serif's products are reasonable priced which in this economy is important.
I love it.
It's versatile, provides professional results and is easy to learn. I'm a Serif fan because of the end user thinking that obviously goes into Serif's product planning.
Three features (among many) that I love is that you can create unlimited tracks, and you can upload directly to YouTube and Facebook.
With Serif's money back guarantee, you can't go wrong. I don't recommend many products but if you want to create movies/videos, go for it, this is a good one!

The HD for Blu-rau works very good.
overall I am very satisfied with the editing features of the product, wish there was more special effects for menu creation

A good all round editing facility which is simple enough for the beginner and yet capable of good results for the more experienced user. The interface is intuitive and the "how to" guides useful for those just starting out.
The Menu Designer is ok for basic design menus, but could be improved upon. While it is possible to import your own background picture or video, it would be nice if users could design menu's using their own animated gifs as thumbnails, with the ability to change the gif upon selection etc.
With the ability to create animations within Drawplus/Photoplus it is a shame these could not be utilised in MoviePlus.
While I enjoy using the program I could not dispense with using other editing software.
Overall it is a good program which can cope with most editing requirements.
