You can help maintain a close tie with your customers and keep your branding and contact details in sight of associates or clients with a business calendar. You can submit your business logo to a calendar producer or, as discussed here, produce a calendar yourself.
Some promotional materials can last a while, some are too short lived or can be pilfered, but a calendar, once used, should be visible by people in your target market for a whole year.
All you’ll need is an image (or twelve) and a flexible design program like Serif PagePlus. It’ll only take a few minutes to bring your image or images into a template design, then add personalised information like branding, contact details, and key trade events or business dates. Modern publishing programs like PagePlus can output your calendar in a format compatible with all modern presses and systems, so you can get a great deal from your local print shop or by choosing an online printing service whether you want just a few calendars or a few thousand.
From here we’ll be using PagePlus X6 to make a calendar and will be describing the steps involved.
Choose a calendar template
On opening PagePlus, choose Use Design Template from the Startup Wizard. Choose a design you like the look of, opting either for a 1-page year planner or a 12-page calendar. We’ll be choosing a 12-page calendar.
Set up special dates
The Calendar Wizard will launch automatically. Select a year, and whether to include public holidays and special events. Click the Events button to open the Calendar Event Manager. The New Event button makes it easy to add multiple dates and descriptions. When done, close the Calendar Event Manager and then click Update in the Calendar Wizard to update your template design.
Import your own pictures
You can now add your own images. You can click the Import Picture button and add images to each page, or choose 12 images and store them in the Asset Manager tab for drag and drop simplicity plus easy reuse. The Asset Manager is an on-screen repository for images, graphics, text and other objects that you can use to stay organised during project creation and for other similar projects.
Open the Asset tab, click on the Pictures section, then click Add. You can now browse your computer and select the 12 images you’d like to use for your calendar. If they are in different folders, click Open and repeat this last step for each folder. Be sure to add your own business logo to the Asset tab so you can use it throughout your calendar. If you don’t have a suitale logo, you can craft one in PagePlus X6’s Logo Studio!
Now simply drag and drop an image into the empty picture frame on the January page, and drag your logo into a suitable spot to brand the calendar. When selected, these pictures in containers can be adjusted by zooming, panning and rotating using controls at the bottom-right of the image. Click the Next Page button to move on to February and repeat the drag and drop operations for the rest of the year.
Add more text
If there’s any special text you would like to include, simple select the Artistic Text tool and drag to your preferred text size before you start typing. If you want to add some graphical pizzazz, select your text object then single-click presets from the Styles tab.
Publish ready for professional printing
You can print straight away, but to promote the best business image you should take or send your calendar to a professional printer. To publish your calendar in a format compatible with print shops and online printing services, click the Publish as PDF button on the top toolbar, then choose PDF X-1a from the Publish Profiles list. This applies a collection of settings that will ensure your calendar is printed accurately, at high quality, reliably, with no compatibility worries.
That’s it! Of course you can customise your calendar or other promotional materials further with PagePlus X6’s range of design and editing tools, plus naturally neat layouts with Clean Design Mode.
