Article Number T12182001 Download Regular Updates Sometimes problems with installation or running of software (even Serif programs!) can be avoided if you have regularly updated the drivers for your hardware devices and peripherals. These include printers, scanners, digital cameras, video/graphics cards and sound cards to name but a few. To download the latest drivers go to the manufacturer's web site and check their Technical Support page for updated driver downloads. Or if you cannot find the manufacturer, try using a search engine or directory service such as www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, www.alltheweb.com, or www.altavista.com. Just type in the model number of your piece of hardware and search. (These sites are in no way linked to Serif or any of its subsidiaries or related companies and Serif cannot be held responsible for the content therein.) If you do not know what the make and model numbers of your video/graphics and sound cards are, try running Dxdiag (Start > Run > Dxdiag). This is the DirectX diagnostics software and will show you the make and model number of your video/graphics and sound card in the various sections Downloading updates for your operating system from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. This is a very good idea to ensure you have the latest operating system files (such as .dll (Dynamic Link Libraries) files). This site will automatically detect the version of Windows you are running and forward you on to the relevant page for downloading the appropriate files. (This site is in no way linked to Serif or any of its subsidiaries or related companies and Serif cannot be held responsible for the content therein.) If you are still running Windows 95 or 98, ensure that you have downloaded and installed the Microsoft critical updates for these operating systems. Also upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer (even if you use another Browser) can be useful as it can update older system files Of course we have to mention application updates too! Manufacturers of software (including Serif) have to release updates, maintenance upgrades, patches (call them what you will!) to ensure that any problem found after release is fixed for their customers. ( Manufacturers simply cannot test for every permutation of hardware and software and peripheral there is out there - we would still be testing PagePlus 1 if we did!). Keeping a regular eye on the Serif Web site and indeed the User Forum and Newsgroups will ensure you know about updates as soon as they become available. We strongly recommend that all our customers use the very latest version of the product they have purchased. |
