PRESS RELEASE
Serif Launches Teaching Resources at BETT 2007
Dedicated resources provide teaching support for DiDA and the OCR Nationals

Serif (Europe) Ltd – the UK’s leading independent desktop publishing, design and graphics software developer – are delighted to be exhibiting at BETT 2007 (Stand K36, National Hall) and will be showcasing their comprehensive range of new resources that offer teaching and learning support for the use of Serif Software in education.

The free Serif Resource Pack for DiDA, created by mPowerNet and endorsed by Edexcel, offers a preparatory course that outlines the skills requirements for Unit 3: Graphics. Students will learn how to research and gather sources, create a diverse range of graphics product, plan and manage a project over a set timescale, and meet deadlines. Combining contextual references, links to external information sources, guided activities, mini project briefs, skills checklists and more, Serif’s Resource Pack for DiDA will fully prepare students for the Graphics unit of the DiDA course, enabling them to undertake the Summative Project Brief and ePortfolio with confidence. The Serif Resource Pack for DiDA is available free on CD-ROM by calling Serif’s education team on 0800 376 6868.

Serif has also produced support materials for the revised OCR Nationals qualification. The Serif Design Suite covers many of the creative elements of the course and Serif has produced materials for the Digital Imaging and Web Design Units, with the other creative units to be completed soon. The support materials contain teacher focused guides that provide a scheme of work covering all of the learning outcomes, assessment objectives and knowledge, skills and understanding a student needs to prepare successfully for the Level 2 Units.

Regardless of whether a school chooses to deliver DiDA or the OCR Nationals, Serif has the appropriate software titles and course focused learning materials to provide a full creative learning package, complete with direction and support.

“Serif software is ideally suited to the teaching of the creative units in DiDA and the OCR National Certificate, as it is an affordable and accessible way to learn transferable ICT and design skills”, said Colin Hussey, Serif’s Education Business Manager. “As more and more schools adopt DiDA and the OCR Nationals, we’ve recognised the need to offer comprehensive resources that support teachers using Serif software to deliver these exciting new courses, and ultimately raise the learning potential of their students.”

“We are very happy to be supporting schools in this way,” said Gary Bates, Serif’s Managing Director. “I firmly believe that an awareness of design issues and experience of using graphics software is invaluable for students, whatever their career aspirations.”
