Serif (Europe) Ltd Nottingham, UK 11 January 2006 PRESS RELEASE Serif Launches DrawPlus 8 at BETT 2006 Latest version of popular drawing and graphics package is launched at BETT Serif (Europe) Ltd – the UK’s leading independent desktop publishing, design and graphics software developer – are delighted to be exhibiting at BETT 2006 (Stand X90, National Hall) and releasing the latest version of their hugely popular DrawPlus program to coincide with the show. DrawPlus 8 is the latest version of Serif’s powerful vector drawing package, which has already proven immensely popular in schools across the UK. This latest version has had a complete User Interface overhaul, making DrawPlus 8 even easier to use than ever before. Combining this improved accessibility with DrawPlus 8’s range of brand new flexible drawing tools, this latest version is ideal for teaching a wide range of curriculum-based subjects through ICT. DrawPlus 8 introduces pressure sensitive brush strokes, which are fully compatible with all graphics tablets, providing an exciting new way to create organic-looking drawings with ease. Taking full advantage of pressure data from the tablet, DrawPlus 8 enables pupils to select a variety of media styles – including pencils, charcoal, watercolours, pastels and many more – and draw pictures by applying varying pressure to create a range of line thicknesses, just as they would using these media in the traditional way. A standard mouse can be used to create images and individual brush strokes can be edited independently, providing complete flexibility for creating natural media painting effects digitally, no matter what equipment is available. DrawPlus 8 provides an easy approach to teaching the traditional principles of colour and image composition in Art lessons, while embracing the latest design technology and preparing pupils for the real world of work. DrawPlus 8 is ideally suited to teaching graphic communication projects across the whole curriculum, satisfying key requirements in ICT, Art & Design and Design & Technology. Fully compatible with all of the common CAD file formats, DrawPlus 8 enables pupils to fully edit designs created in CAD packages and bring their technical drawings to life pictorially, using the array of advanced illustration tools DrawPlus 8 offers. This new functionality and all the favourite features from previous versions are now available through a completely re-designed interface with dockable palettes that can be expanded or collapsed, ensuring that nothing interferes the creative flow. A new Context toolbar allows pupils to make easy adjustments to tool properties, allowing them to design without unnecessary interruptions. Offering a huge amount of drawing and graphics power and more accessible than ever before, staff will enjoy teaching with this program and pupils will enjoy learning with DrawPlus 8, which provides a valuable grounding in digital design. “We really enjoy attending BETT, especially as it gives us the opportunity to receive valuable feedback from the teachers who use our software in the classrooms,” said Colin Hussey, Serif’s Educational Sales Manager. “We are especially excited to be launching DrawPlus 8 at this year’s show and are looking forward to demonstrating how the latest version of DrawPlus can make an even more effective impact on graphic communication across all curriculum subjects.” End For further information please contact: Meg Sharp.
