Serif (Europe) Ltd Nottingham, UK 10 January 2007 PRESS RELEASE Serif Showcases Resources and Products at BETT 2008 Professionally-endorsed teacher resources provide support for the OCR Nationals and DiDA Serif (Europe) Ltd – the UK’s leading independent desktop publishing, design and graphics software developer – are delighted to be exhibiting at BETT 2008 (Stand K36, National Hall) and will be showcasing their comprehensive range of resources that offer teaching and learning support for the use of Serif software in education. As a UK-based software developer, Serif understands the requirements of the UK curriculum and the needs of UK teachers; highlighted by OCR Nationals and DiDA support materials, there’s clear correlation between Serif software functionality and current curricular requirements for graphics and animation. Serif is also pleased to announce that every Head of ICT visiting the Serif stand will receive one of each title in the Serif educational range, entirely free of charge, along with a free Teacher Resource Pack. The Serif Resource Pack for the OCR Nationals, created by mPowerNet and endorsed by OCR, offers a preparatory course that outlines the skills requirements for creative Units of the Level 2 specification. Students will learn how to research and gather sources, create a diverse range of graphics, plan and manage a project over a set timescale, and meet deadlines. Combining contextual references, links to external information sources, guided activities, mini project briefs, skills checklists and more, Serif’s Resource Pack for the OCR Nationals will fully prepare students for the assessment objectives of the course, enabling them to undertake projects with confidence. The OCR Teacher Resources for Unit 3: Digital Imaging will be included with the free pack offered to teachers attending the Serif stand at BETT, and other OCR-endorsed resources for a variety of creative Units are included with all educational site licenses. Serif’s Design Suite software for education covers many creative elements of current courses; Serif has produced OCR Nationals materials for its products to suit Digital Imaging (Unit 3), Web Design (Unit 2), Creating Computer Graphics (Unit 21), Animation (Unit 20), Creating Video (Unit 23) and DTP (Unit 5). Serif’s Design Suite is ever-more pertinent as UK curricular needs have grown, with the emphasis in Key Stages 3 and 4 becoming increasingly creative, including vector and bitmap graphics and keyframe animation. Serif is the only software company that has had its Teacher Resources endorsed by OCR for the OCR Nationals Level 2 specification. DiDA support materials accompanying educational site licenses similarly contain teacher-focused guides that provide a scheme of work covering all of the learning outcomes, assessment objectives and knowledge, skills, and understanding a student needs to prepare successfully for the Level 2 Units. Serif has also produced support materials for the DiDA qualification for Unit 3, Graphics: These will also be included with the free pack offered to teachers attending the Serif stand at BETT. Regardless of whether a school chooses to deliver the OCR Nationals or DiDA, Serif has the appropriate software titles and professionally-endorsed course learning materials to provide a full creative learning package, complete with direction and support. “Serif software is ideally suited to the teaching of creative units in the OCR National Certificate and DiDA, as it allows an affordable and accessible way to offer transferable ICT and design skills”, said Colin Hussey, Serif’s Education Business Manager. “As more and more schools adopt the OCR Nationals and DiDA, we’ve recognised the need to offer comprehensive, targeted resources that support teachers using Serif software to deliver these exciting new courses, and ultimately raise the learning and creative potential of their students.” “We are delighted to be able to support schools in this way,” said Gary Bates, Serif’s Director. “I firmly believe that an awareness of design issues and useful experience software is increasingly important for students, whatever their career aspirations.”End For further information please contact: Please contact: Sarah Connelly, Tel: 0115 9149104 or Email: pr@serif.com About Serif Serif is the publisher of the award-winning software range that includes PagePlus, PhotoPlus, DrawPlus, WebPlus, ImpactPlus, AlbumPlus, MoviePlus and more.
