PRESS RELEASE
SERIF LAUNCHES DRAWPLUS 8
Latest version offers new pressure sensitive media brushes and painting effects.

Serif (Europe) Ltd – the UK’s leading independent desktop publishing, design and graphics software developer – is delighted to announce the release of DrawPlus 8, the brand new version of Serif’s popular drawing & design package.

Serif DrawPlus 8 (List Price £79.99; upgrade prices available*) is the long anticipated new version of Serif’s affordable vector drawing program. A wealth of powerful drawing tools and exceptional new media brushes are housed in DrawPlus 8’s revised Interface, making it easier to create stunning artwork and achieve realistic painting effects on the PC. Brand new professionally designed Templates and Gallery Objects will help beginners unlock their creative potential fast, whilst experienced designers will enjoy DrawPlus 8’s flexible drawing options.

DrawPlus 8 introduces pressure-sensitive brush strokes and supports all leading graphics tablets, providing an exciting new way to create organic-looking digital drawings with ease. Users can select a variety of media styles (including pencil, charcoal, watercolour, pastel and more), choose line thickness simply by applying varying pressure with the tablet pen and build an image up with several different brush strokes. Individual brush strokes can be edited independently to create fully customised natural paint effects and users can even create brush styles using their own images. Various paper textures such as canvas, parchment and watercolour can be applied to give artwork a truly authentic look.

PDFs can now be imported and directly edited in DrawPlus 8, with artwork elements either recognised as fully editable vectors or bitmap objects that new image adjustment options can be applied to. Adobe® Photoshop® files can be imported and version 8 also has comprehensive support for industry-standard CAD files. DrawPlus 8’s PDF export options now support the PDF/X-1a standard, enabling users to create press-ready PDFs that contain all the necessary fonts and CMYK colour information, in order to professionally print designs with confidence. Providing the most up-to-date choice of professional printing colours, Serif is one of the first companies in the world to support the ‘Pantone® Color Bridge’ range in a consumer graphics application. This highly versatile import and export functionality opens up new possibilities for sharing and modifying document artwork and layouts across different programs, platforms and with anyone, anywhere in the world.

DrawPlus 8’s Colour Tab has been given a complete overhaul with the introduction of an HSL Wheel, HSL Square and RGB & CMYK sliders, providing users with a choice of intuitive colour selection tools. The Swatches Tab now offers Themed Palettes, such as ‘Warm’, ‘Earth’ and ‘Pastel’, so that users can be confident their selected colours will be complementary and adhere to good design principles. Colours used in a current design are automatically added to a new Document Palette, making them easily accessible for viewing, selection and editing as well as removing potential errors trying to match colours manually. An entire Document Palette can be saved and used for subsequent drawings, ideal for occasions when a standard colour scheme is required such as creating company artwork using predefined corporate colours.

The User Interface in DrawPlus 8 has been modernised to make all this new functionality and favourite legacy features more accessible than ever through fully-customisable docked tabs and intuitive new toolbars. Speeding up the design process even further, a new Context Sensitive Toolbar makes all the most common options of the selected tool easily accessible at all times. Interface preferences can be saved so that users get straight into their creative flow when opening DrawPlus 8, without the frustrating task of re-designing their workspace every time.

“DrawPlus 8 provides both inexperienced and advanced new media designers with an intuitive and enjoyable creative workspace in which to create everything from vector line drawings to natural-looking painted artwork quickly and easily,” said Gary Bates, Serif’s Managing Director. “Already a favourite of educational and home users, we hope the introduction of PDF import and new professional printing capabilities will make version 8 every bit as popular with business users.”

The DrawPlus 8 package contains:
• Serif DrawPlus 8 – CD and User Guide
• Serif DrawPlus 8 Resource CD – CD containing over 1100+ Design Resources and 22 Design Projects & Tutorials.

* Please contact Serif on 0800 376 7070 for upgrade prices if you are an existing user of other Serif software packages.
