You can be much more precise with the gaps between your paragraphs by setting the spacing before you type. Simply hit Ctrl+M and, under Paragraph>Alignment and Spacing, adjust the Space After value. Click OK, then whenever you reach the end of a paragraph, hit enter once to create a true paragraph break.
