The Results Are In!

After nearly 5500 entries, 19 finalists, and over 9500 votes, the results are in. The overall winner of the Serif PhotoPlus competition for 2011 is Leif Smith from the USA with his amazing landscape image of a majestic Californian wave break.

As well as bragging rights, he also wins over $3000 worth of kit including a Sony Alpha A55 DSLR with an 18-55mm lens, an HP laptop, a canvas print of their winning image, a year’s subscription to Digital Photo magazine and, of course, the whole suite of Serif software, which includes the new PhotoPlus X5!

Leif used a Nikon D60 with an 55mm-200mm lens at 110mm set at f/5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/500 to take the picture. He then enhanced detail in the water using PhotoPlus to achieve the final effect.

When asked to describe how he captured the winning shot, Leif explained “I was sitting on the Californian coast enjoying the waves when I came across waves crashing on a huge rock. The waves were so massive that I couldn't resist getting some pictures of it.”
